7 apps to brighten your summer

It’s still summer, right? There is still time to do some exploring. But before you go anywhere, think about taking some of these apps with you – wherever you decide to soak up some rays and enjoy the time off.

BeachFinder – When you’re ready for that long walk by the beach, BeachFinder points you to the best beaches. You can search more than 5,300 beaches in North America by city, address or zip code, or use the app’s Locate Me feature to pinpoint your location and, in seconds, get a list and map to all the closest beaches. The app is great for vacation planning and when you’re on the road, and it also includes photos and comments from users on their favorite beaches.

Songkick – Groupie or not, Songkick’s app puts all the details of thousands concerts in your pocket. You can track the schedule of your favorite bands, and the best part is Songkick will scan your music library and create a personalized calendar based on your bands and your location.

DermandarDermandar helps you to create public or private photographic panoramas in three steps: shoot your photos, create your 360-degree panorama and preview it within seconds. You can also look through user-submitted panoramas of popular or off-the-beaten-path destinations in your region.

Epicurious – The Epicurious app – from the popular website for foodies and wannabe foodies – can help you cook light summer fare and specialty drinks. You can search more than 30,000 professionally created recipes from Bon Appetit, Gourmet, Self, renowned chefs, cookbooks and Epicurious members. You can save your favorite recipes and sync your Favorites list in the app with your online Recipe Box at Epicurious.com. You can also create shopping lists, and email recipes and shopping lists to yourself and friends.

Surfline – When you’re ready to catch a seriously righteous wave, open your Surfline app. Surfline presents surf reports and forecasts up to five days in advance for thousands of surf spots across the world – including sunrise and sunset times for you early birds and romantic types. The app is the only surfing app with live streaming HD surf cams for more than 90 locations in the US and Hawaii.

Quickoffice – If you find yourself needing to do some work while you’re out and about this summer, our very own Quickoffice app will help you get that work done faster. Our mobile Office app lets you view, edit and create Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents from anywhere – including, dare we say it, the beach.
