Contest: Where do you smartphone?

Our smartphones are so ubiquitous; the word ‘smartphone’ should be a verb and not just a noun. Where do you smartphone?

According to this amusing ‘holiday flowchart’ from Gizmodo, people use their smartphones when others might think they shouldn’t: http://gizmodo.com/5434170/holiday-flowchart-inappropriate-times-to-use-your-smartphone-around-family

We do it on dates, on ski lifts, at the beach and while soaking in the bathtub, and in the middle of the night. We use it (gasp) when going to the bathroom; according to an article by CIO, three out of four said it’s perfectly appropriate to do so. Ew. But true. Unfortunately, nobody washes their cell phones along with their hands! But, respondents of the same survey said they don’t tolerate use of a phone during religious events. So, perhaps something does trump the smartphone.

What all of this indicates is that, right or wrong, the smartphone is our latest appendage. It comes with us everywhere. It’s a part of us. It saves us from boredom, anxiety and loneliness. With the Web at our fingertips, it means we rarely have to say, “I don’t know.” We work with it, game with it, call, text, shop, buy, impress our in-laws, play music, and stay in touch with the loved ones who despise our smartphone addictions. Don’t we all share the disease?

Share with us your worst smartphone addictions or favorite place you like to use Quickoffice on your smartphone. On next Friday March 5th, we will pick one winner that has the best story and award a $250 iTunes or Visa gift card, depending on the winner's preference.

If you’re not afraid of losing your beloved phone in that bank of snow beneath you – or worse – the toilet (we all know someone this has happened to), keep smartphoning!

Use it when at work in school so that I can access sites that aren't allowed on the school computers. Why should the kids have limited access to information - most of the stuff out there is safe as long as you monitor them!

I use Boxcar for my iPhone, and my worst habit is hearing the notice sound and actually checking to see someone's twitter response or Direct Message, while driving! And yes, I have gone to a stall to get some peace and quiet with my cell, at least momentarily!

My worst smartphone addictions is using iPhone with QuickOffice when I am queueing up to pay my bills. Usually, when the queue is long, I will take out my iPhone and look at my word documents that are retrieved from my emails. The guys behind me always give me a disgusted look when my queue number is up and I am still fiddling with my iPhone.

The most dangerous place to use the iPhone is when I am in the toilet doing my business. There is always a tendency of dropping the iPhone into the toilet bowl when you reach out for the toilet paper or someone actually calls you and you panic and the iPhone dropped into the place where you do your business.

The favourite place I will use my iPhone with Quickoffice is when I am at the library looking at books and using it to jot down which research material I want. This is the best place for me as it is quiet and I can focus on what I am doing. The second best place I will use my iPhone is when I am lying face up with my iPhone on my sofa at home. I usually won't get distracted because I am usually alone but when I doze off, the iPhone seems to slip out of my reach and maybe fall off from the sofa. This is the scariest moment for me when I wake up, fearing the LCD of my iPhone is cracked.

My Nokia Eseries smartphone is something I can't do without in my daily lives. My smartphone is something with so many functions that allows me to do almost everything with it. I use my smartphone in my home, shopping centres, school, classroom, car, bus, railway station, walkways, parks, restaurants, gyms, and any places that pops out in your mind. No, no toilets!

By using Wifi, I surf the web with my smartphone in every nook and corner of my house. I use instant messaging service clients to contact with my friends. IM service clients on my smartphone saves me a lot of penny for texting.

My smartphone is also a great tool I use to contact my girlfriend. She's a lovely girl that I call whenever and wherever I want to. While waiting for or in public transports, I use my smartphone to read some news, novel and other informative articles.

When I'm walking or need some music to spice up my ears, I turn on the music on my smartphones. When I get bored, I watch videos on YouTube.

When driving, my smartphone is always my navigator. The GPS function plus Google Maps application in the smartphone makes everything easy.

In school, QuickOffice in my smartphone is a great tool for document-editing works. QuickOffice lets me edit or create document, slides and sheet when such needs arise. QuickOffice is seriously a great application that eases all the troubles.

When running around in parks or doing exercise in gyms, my smartphone is a great tool that keep me from any boredom. I can use my smartphone to stream news or internet radio live and watch or listen to them.

When doing my shopping, my smartphone will be my great budget planner. It lets me make sure that everything I buy is of good use and is withint my budget.

Queueing up in lines is probably the most boring and time-wasting thing to do for everyone. But with my smartphone, I can always play games installed on it.

Last but not least, in case of any emergency happens, my smartphone is always my first aid kid. I can search for guides, manuals and how-to's using my smartphone. I can also always look up or recall any important things that I saved in notes. Calendar and clock is also two great functions to keep my time well-organised.

A smartphone is a handy tool that we can carry anywhere, but I always tell myself to refrain from using in places near water such as swimming pools and toilets! Because my smartphone is something I treasure the most and I cannot afforad anything happens to it.

I "smartphone" everywhere. And, thanks to QuickOffice, my iPhone can keep me informed everywhere as well.

I usually find that during a meeting I'll want a document that I have on my laptop back on my desk. (This may or may not be in the same building. And many times, my MacBook is in my bag out in the car, or back home.) If I've saved it to a "cloud" repository, I can (and do) grab it with my iPhone. It's hard sometimes to explain to those who have not experienced it, but having documents of almost any kind immediately available, either locally on my iPhone or for a quick download from online erases the distinction between my computer and my phone. It is, truly, a portal into my digital library of information.

I use my iPhone for everything. I often take it to meetings and take notes or retrieve documents on-the-fly.

We had a series of week long meetings and my role was to take notes (yeah, I drew the short straw). So, I took the notes, but not on my laptop, but on my iPhone. My colleagues thought I was playing games the whole time and were flabbergasted when I sent them the meeting minutes later that night (some editing needed to be done :-)

Needless to say, you can do anything on your smartphone, including fooling your co-workers.

I use QuickOffice on my iPhone while I am at a customer's location on the road since I keep their unpaid bills on a Spreadsheet along with visit date and sales data. I sync that file to Dropbox at the end of the day and review everything on my laptop. If I make any changes I save back to Dropbox and sync over to QuickOffice again so as to continue my mobile updating the next day.

Having a dashboard mount on my truck tempts me to use it while driving although I tend not to do that often unless I want some info before I stop for a sale.

I smartphone when I am free..... I use it while in Bathroom, While I am waiting for an appointment, While I am at a movie I don't like, While I want to make note of my expenses, While I am going somewhere but not driving myself.

I use quickoffice to save time. Since I am not allowed to use my work email on my Nokia E72, I email all the important files to my personal id and work on them on holidays when I am not required by family or friends. (Should I ashamed of admitting this!) Most of the times I edit my speadsheets on a [toilet]... That time, I am alone, I am not encroaching on my time earmarked for my wife and daughter and no distractions! I work on them, ready them, attach them to my personal id and mail to my work email. Done! Every monday, I simply download them, review for any mistakes and ready to send!!!!

I mostly use quickoffice to smartphone my excel sheets. Don't use powerpoint or Word that much!

That's it. Infact I have been a quickoffice premier user for 3 years now on my symbian powered Nokias and they are an integrated part of my work life. They allow so much of flexibility that it's just awesome for me manouvre my schedules...

On the move (car), standing still (toilet) and waiting for something better (bed).  Just about any place, any time .. even now.

I use it while preparing presentations, editing word documents, memorizing numbers from excel while on the move. I also use it in train or quickly typing in some data which I am receiving from someone.

Its a great app.

I use my iPhone everywhere and attached to it except for the time I sleep. Even then it's only at an arm's length.

I use QuickOffice to run my Pool League, volleyball club, etc keeping scores, who paid and all sorts of info and sync it to my computer with Dropbox.

Bathroom is my favorite time to create iPhone screenshots for my app reviews and I use the WordPress iPhone app to upload them to my blog. Luckily, I have been keeping it safe from any water hazard but the fear of dropping it is always there.

I am guilty of checking push notifications while driving as well.

I used my Smartphone a lot when taking my class on a school trip to France. As well as posting updates of our adventures using Twitter, it made those long journeys a little shorter!!

The 4 worst smartphone addictions i have

1. I check tweets in between when i talk to people and it really annoys them. LoL

2. I smartphone when there is even a little bit of time on the road waiting for the signal to go green.

3. Of course in the toilet. :-P

4. And last but not the least while travelling in the bus or train. My smartphone is everything to me including my newspaper. :-p

Because my time is so limited lately, I have to find those hidden moments to use my iPhone for the fun stuff (I use it for work all the time, but that's not fun).  It's literally the last thing I do at night - final check of email, Twitterific, and the news.  I set the alarm on the phone and listen to pzizzz as I fall asleep. After my morning cup of coffee, during my morning trip to the restroom, I catch up on anything I missed overnight, check my calendar and ToDo list and then I'm set for the whole day.  From morning to night....

Like everyone who has responded so far, I use my smartphone everywhere.

But the best place to use Quickoffice on a smartphone is definitely in airports or in other public transit situations.  These situations always involve so much waiting, and being able to use this time effectively means more time for the important things in life.

And no longer do you have to carry a laptop, awkwardly unpack it at security, and fumble with setting it up while trying not to disturb the people around you.  With Quickoffice on a smartphone, you just do work whenever it is convenient!

I take my phone with me to the loo and fritter away the sitting time. Gross, I know. I do hose my phone down regularly with the antibacterial wipes. Phones and keyboards are filthy, yanno.

i smartphone when its required as and when needed in office, home and in leisure. Especially with quick office application on my ipod touch, i get good output and input when it comes to data calibration.

I regularly take my iphone out in the great NE Minnesota woods, far from any phone reception. The phone has accompanied me - in airplane mode - even into the depths of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. (Of course I have this charger which uses regular batteries to recharge the phone.) I use it as a minicomputer: take notes, develop ideas, even read a kindle book arround the campfire. For this I need apps which can store data on the phone until I get back in the range of a cell phone tower. Of course most of the time it stays carefully place in a Duluth Pack in the canoe.
