CTIA Enterprise & Applications recap

A few weeks ago, we were fortunate enough to attend the CTIA Enterprise & Applications event in sunny San Diego. It was very exciting to see that the event is becoming increasingly focused on the expanding enterprise market for applications and the cloud. A plethora of new apps and technologies, especially in the realm of tablets, smartphones and operating systems, created quite the buzz.

One conversation I found quite interesting was a panel discussion with Qualcomm's president of Internet services, Rob Chandhok. He and other executives discussed a wide range of topics related to mobile apps, from the differences of developing on a variety of platforms, to whether HTML 5 is ready to be the next big thing. The most interesting parts of the discussion were the comments made by T-Mobile’s senior vice president for value-added services, who said the company's research indicates consumers prefer apps that are preloaded by carriers. Jim Eadie, senior vice president for digital business development for the Viacom Media Network, added that his company develops a specific marketing plan for each app it launches. These comments are basically the opposite of what many have considered in the past: Pre-loaded apps, coined ‘bloatware’ were usually avoided or ignored.

During CTIA, our own Alan Masarek, CEO of Quickoffice, spoke on the ‘Mobile Cloud Means Business’ discussion panel along with Yankee Group providing insights on how tablets and the cloud are fueling mobile computing.

The Quickoffice team had a great time meeting with a variety of journalists and analysts to showcase our upcoming software update to our Android smartphone and tablet applications, including the integration of social sharing capabilities, as well as a new Apple app update released during the show that brings new SharePlus integration. Our Android update is scheduled to be released around the end of this month, so make sure to stay tuned!

If you were at CTIA, we’re curious what you thought about the show and what you found most interesting. Please share in our blog’s comments section.
