If you keep up with us on the blog, you may be familiar with the 100 Million Club, which we’ve been excited to be a part of over the past few years. Once again, we’ve made VisionMobile’s semi-annual watchlist as the only embedded application shipping on over 100 million handsets. In fact, we have shipped on nearly 400 million handsets, as of the second half of 2010! We’re excited to continue to see this number increase – a true testament to our ongoing OEM relationships, which we continue to expand on each quarter. As a company, this is an important segment of our business and we value these strategic partnerships.
So, beyond our stellar performance, who were the other winners and losers cited in the mobile arena? Below, please find a few points that we found interesting and pulled from the report.
- Curiously, while smartphones have increased their market penetration to more than 20% in 2010 globally, feature phones continue to dominate, which was showcased by the fact that S40 shipments were almost equal to total smartphone shipments
- Android surpassed iOS and BlackBerry, almost reaching Symbian’s shipments
- Total handset shipments for the second half of 2010 were 780 million, increasing 25% over the first half of 2010
What trends are capturing your attention these days in the mobile space? We’d love to hear your thoughts in our comments section.
