Reflections from CTIA and Web 2.0

It’s been a whirlwind few months here at Quickoffice, as the team attended various important shows, including CTIA Wireless 2011 and Web 2.0 Expo. We had a very packed, busy agenda for each.
CTIA Wireless show in Orlando, Florida hosted around 40,000 attendees. The biggest news: The AT&T / T-Mobile merger announcement. It created a new wireless ‘March Madness’, filling the convention with opinions about regulatory hurdles and the eventual winners and losers.
In terms of sessions, one of the most talked about panels was moderated by Jim Cramer, CNBC host of Mad Money. He spoke with the big three carriers: Sprint CEO Dan Hesse; Dan Mead, CEO of Verizon Wireless; and Ralph de la Vega, President and CEO of AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. Many reporters discussed the fireworks created by the heated discussion, but my takeaway was simple. There is a battle for spectrum between the major carriers and the consumer behaviors of watching mobile video and using tablets and smartphones to be productive on the road is propelling demand.
The Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco was equally as exciting, with conversations focused on the future of the Web. For Quickoffice, the convergence of Web and mobile plays a key role in our product strategy. We’re finding that more partners and companies, such as SugarSync, Huddle and Box.net, agree with us.
We held various meetings with the media, customers and partners during the event. Check out one interview with InformationWeek’s Fritz Nelson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRLSgkvKPHY
We speak with Fritz about our recently released Honeycomb tablet application, which includes the ability to access and edit documents, as well as our work bringing those documents to the cloud.
Overall, both CTIA Wireless and Web 2.0 were great shows for Quickoffice. We look forward to the Fall 2011 industry events.
