The iPhone can do what?

If you’re an iPhone owner, you are probably a loyal, or some would say die hard, user of the popular touchscreen device. As a recent New York Times article pointed out, there are a myriad of things you can do to take your iPhone to the next level, both with hidden tricks and also useful applications.

I asked friends and co-workers for their thoughts on useful apps and which hidden tips are most useful. Below are a few responses I found interesting.

Voice control: The iPhone has the ability to dial numbers and play songs when a user speaks a commend such as “Play artist Lady Gaga.” Did you know that you could also ask the phone to tell you the time? I personally use mine as a clock, so it’s pretty handy to be able to ask, “What time is it?”

Can you access me now? Cloud storage providers including Box.net and Dropbox are great additions for accessing documents in the cloud. What if you need to access your home computer or a program? LogMeIn has an app called Ignition that provides one-click access to home computers. It’s great for road warriors. Ignition lets you attach a file from your home PC to an email message on your iPhone and access applications on your home PC. Even better, you can edit those documents accessed through Ignition’s integration with Quickoffice.

Effortless Web searching: One of my favorite commands on my desktop is command F, also known as the find or search function. I use it across applications and most frequently use it on my web browser. Do you know you can search your iPhone browser in the same manner? The search bar on Safari not only locates web addresses, but can also locate words or phrases on a specific page. Simply type in your search term and scroll down to the end, where you’ll note the last result: ‘on this page’. Tap it and you’ll find what you were looking for.

No matter what your use case is for your iPhone, there are a variety of applications, shortcuts and tricks for leveraging all the phone has to offer. Agree / disagree with our tips? Have another? Tell us your favorite use of your iPhone on our Facebook page.

Wow! I've been wondering how to search pages in Safari for a long time--I had no idea it is actually currently possible to do so. Now, is there a way to view a page's source in Safari touch?

PS - Always been a fan of Quickoffice. Several of us here use it on our iPhones.
