Ultrabook trends, continued

We recently looked at the Ultrabook trend, and noticed that this movement continues to increase in popularity, as more reporters are covering the developments in the space and consumers are purchasing these devices.

The Financial Times recently wrote an article, that called them the ‘machines that have more of less’, meaning they offer more features and benefits, but they weigh less than a typical laptop. Weighing an average of three pounds, Intel forecasts that a whopping 40 percent of notebook PC sales by the end of 2012 will be Ultrabooks.

While adoption is tracking an upward trend, CNET confirmed the pricing of Ultrabooks is following a downward trend. The devices, which started around $1000, are now available from Toshiba for $799.99 and from Aspire for $839.99. Prices are estimated to continue to decrease, landing between $599 and $699. While Ultrabooks were originally considered unreachable by consumers, due to their high price points, the resulting price decrease will eliminate this initial roadblock.

Ultrabooks offer useful features and enable enhanced productivity for many consumers, but they aren’t quite as mobile and accessible as tablets. The increasing affordability of laptops and tablets also make them more appealing. Depending on the user’s needs and preferences, a less expensive tablet may be the better choice due to its portability. Also, apps like Quickoffice help bring tablets to a similar level as Ultrabooks, as they enable productivity and transportability.

What is your preference? Are you considering purchasing an Ultrabook?

Only as a second computer.

Can't have a Ultrabook or Macbook Air as the only computer.

And for a second computer today I have an iPad 2. Probably will be upgrading to 3 if comes with quad core AND more RAM memory. Sometimes I suffer using iPad 2 because of the lack of RAM memory.

Btw Quickoffice, upgrad your software to import images from the picture library on the iOS devices.
